With the new PROFINET version, development continues steadily toward a fully connected, real-time, communicative signaling solution for Industry 4.0.

Real-time communication and Power over Ethernet:
The eSIGN PROFINET enables real-time communication between the signaling device and the control system. Machine states can be displayed and evaluated without delay—a crucial advantage in automated and safety-critical applications.
Another key feature: the device is powered via Power over Ethernet (PoE), meaning that data and power are transmitted over a single cable. This significantly reduces installation and material costs and ensures a clean and efficient system. The eSIGN PROFINET supports both PoE and PoE+ and connects via a robust, industry-standard, future-proof 4-pin M12 connector.
Getting the new eSIGN up and running is simple: just connect the device and it will be automatically recognized by the network. It can then be integrated directly into the existing network topology.
Furthermore, the PROFINET version offers enhanced diagnostic capabilities: communication errors between the product and the control system are detected faster and located more precisely. This allows for immediate troubleshooting, significantly simplifying maintenance and service, and increasing system availability.

Compared to the IO-Link version, the new PROFINET variant offers even greater flexibility. Users can switch between all modes and colors and control each segment individually—ideal for dynamic processes where statuses, warnings, or process progress need to be precisely visualized.

With the introduction of the PROFINET version, WERMA now offers its customers two powerful communication options within the same product family. While the previous IO-Link version is ideal for machine builders and applications with decentralized control architectures, the PROFINET version offers additional possibilities for use in large, connected production facilities and smart factory environments, including real-time communication, diagnostic functions, and PoE power.
