By entering parameters in the web interface, users can describe their specific design requirements. Based on these, the tool recommends the appropriate part number and the corresponding ferromagnetic hub (shield). The tool also provides a total error estimate, allowing for instant performance estimation across the entire temperature and current sensing range.

IMC-Hall® current sensor integrated circuits offer precise, non-contact current measurement, widely used in industrial and automotive applications. They offer the advantage of surface mounting and easy mechanical integration compared to core-based technology. They do not suffer from the drawbacks of coreless and shieldless technologies. These latter technologies are inherently sensitive to mechanical tolerances and require the IC to be rigidly mounted very close to the busbar.

The Melexis Current Sensor Simulator automatically matches sensors and shielding based on the provided requirements. It educates users on the advantages and disadvantages associated with different IMC-Hall devices and shielding. Furthermore, it allows visualization of shielding nonlinearities and determination of saturation levels. This means users can see the impact of saturation and choose the optimal shielding.

“By using the new web-based current sensor simulation tool, we can translate our customers’ requirements into optimized sensing solutions,” says Bruno Boury, current sensor product line manager at Melexis. “This allows engineers of all experience levels to fully leverage IMC-Hall’s magnetic sensing technology. They gain a fast track to a solution perfectly suited to their application, based on the required current range and busbar width. As a result, we see potential for these sensors to achieve even greater popularity.”
