NECTO Studio 2.0 is a comprehensive, cross-platform software development kit for embedded applications that provides everything needed to start developing and prototyping, including Click™ board applications and graphical interfaces for embedded devices. Rapid software development is easily achieved, as developers don't need to worry about low-level code, freeing them to focus on the application code itself. This means that changing the MCU or even the entire platform doesn't require developers to rewrite their code for the new MCU or platform. They simply switch to the desired platform, apply the correct board definition file, and the application code will continue to function after a single compilation.
RISC-V is becoming big business for embedded system designers. MIKROE CEO Nebojsa Matic explains: “Thanks to its customizable open-source design and lack of licensing costs, RISC-V is gaining popularity internationally. NECTO Studio 2.0 comes with native support for GCC compilers for RISC-V. We currently support more than fourteen RISC-V MCUs, giving designers a real choice. But we also support the RISC-V architecture in our mikroSDK, providing a complete set of mikroSDK 2.0 libraries for RISC-V, allowing designers to use all Click libraries on RISC-V MCUs and easily switch between different architectures without changing a single line of code.”
Following industry standards, NECTO Studio 2.0 now uses the CMake build system. However, MIKROE has also added CMake-exclusive features for adding, deleting, and renaming files within a CMake project, as well as adding and removing libraries. This makes it much easier and more intuitive to use, without a steep learning curve.
Full details of other enhancements are outlined here, including more intuitive settings, wizards, and project and library management options.
Users can also use the NECTO Studio 2.0 IDE to run Planet Debug, a hardware-as-a-service platform that allows designers to remotely develop and debug embedded systems without investing in hardware. For just $4 a day, designers can reserve time on a remote Planet Debug workstation configured to their needs and remotely develop and debug their own application code through NECTO Studio without having to acquire the hardware, wait for it to arrive, and install and configure each component.
