Prysmian announces the launch of the new version of Cable App, its free tool for selecting and calculating the best technical, economic, and environmental cross-section for each type of installation, for low and medium voltage electrical cables. This new 2025 version incorporates significant technical improvements, new functionalities, and a renewed focus on sustainability, while remaining fully up-to-date with current regulations and standards, such as the REBT and RLAT. With these updates, Cable App is further solidified as an even more comprehensive and precise solution, designed to meet the growing demands of the market and the needs of professionals in the electrical sector.
Among the main improvements is the incorporation of voltage drop calculation at conductor temperature, a key advancement for obtaining results more closely aligned with actual installation conditions. Thanks to this improvement, the application now considers the Joule effect and ambient temperature when calculating conductor resistance.
Furthermore, Cable App now allows the user to set a maximum conductor cross-section as a limit in the calculations, a particularly useful feature to adapt to the materials and usual practices of each installer, without sacrificing the flexibility to calculate larger cross-sections up to 630 mm².
In line with its commitment to sustainability, Prysmian has integrated the new e-SenS type cables into this version, manufactured with recycled and bio-attributed raw materials. The new Afumex Sun photovoltaic cable, class Cca-s1a,d2,a1, specifically designed for self-consumption installations, is also included.
Among the improvements that enhance the user experience, the new version of Cable App incorporates the automatic inclusion of typical voltage drop values based on the type of installation. This allows users to save time and minimize errors by eliminating the need to manually enter this data in each calculation. Furthermore, the display of selected installation systems has been optimized, making the program's interface more intuitive and clear.
The final calculation report has also been enhanced with greater detail, now offering expanded information on the applied correction coefficients and a complete breakdown of the results obtained. Furthermore, all application text has been reviewed and standardized, incorporating relevant information such as the use of 100% renewable energy in cable manufacturing, in line with Prysmian's environmental commitment. It is worth noting that this new version is fully updated in accordance with the new standard UNE-HD 60364-5-52 (2022), which came into effect on April 4, 2025.
Cable App is a tool designed for both professionals and students in the electrical sector. It offers reliable technical calculations, cost optimization proposals, and CO2 emissions savings analyses, all in compliance with the REBT and RLAT regulations. It is available free of charge as an app for Android and iOS, and also as a web application for use from any device.
