MathWorks has released new versions of two products, Robust Control Toolbox and Simulink Control Design, which allow engineers to automatically fine-tune complex control systems modeled in Simulink.
Most embedded control systems have a fixed, decentralized architecture with simple, adjustable elements such as gains, PID controllers, and low-order filters. Enhancements in Robust Control Toolbox and Simulink Control Design allow engineers to automatically adjust all controller elements without changing the controller structure. This eliminates the need for tedious and time-consuming tuning methods for multi-loop and decentralized control systems, such as sequential loop closure.
With the new features, control engineers can:
Select the Simulink blocks to adjust.
Specify bandwidth requirements, stability margins, and tracking performance.
Automatically adjust all control system parameters simultaneously.
Update the selected Simulink blocks with the adjusted values.
The resulting design can be verified by simulating the model.
