Thanks to the integrated Simosim simulation during the engineering phase, users can now test their software without connecting any equipment. Program components are optimized at the beginning of the development phase, shortening the time to market. Object-oriented programming (OOP) capabilities have been expanded in software version 5.1 to enable more flexible software development. The new, highly modular Simotion software simplifies the implementation of motion control applications before machine commissioning, thus reducing time to market.
Using Simosim for simulations during the engineering phase allows for online access and testing functions just as if a real controller were connected. In addition to its debugging capabilities, such as status programs, breakpoints, and oscilloscope functions, the inclusion of a web server and full OPC UA functionality makes it possible to simulate even individual axes. This significantly accelerates the start of production by reducing the time-consuming troubleshooting and program adaptation process required for the actual machine. Simosim is also a key component of the comprehensive digital process chain, from configuration to cloud-based services.
In Simotion software version 5.1, Siemens has added OOPelements for flexible software structuring of library-compatible modular machine concepts: it now supports mechanisms for direct connection of I/O components in program code or for grouping functionally associated software elements into libraries.
