With the MTD6505, Microchip expands its range of sensorless, sinusoidal, brushless DC (BLDC) three-phase motor controllers. It is the first and only standalone resistor-programmable controller on the market that allows selection from various back EMF ranges. This unique feature enables engineers to design a wide variety of characteristics for three-phase BLDC fans with a single, cost-effective, and flexible device, saving time and money by standardizing multiple product lines onto a single controller with very few external components.

Microchip announces its first instrumentation amplifier, the MCP6N11. This new instrumentation amplifier incorporates Microchip's unique mCal technology, which consists of an integrated calibration circuit that enables a low initial offset voltage and a way to control offset drift, resulting in greater accuracy over time and temperature.

Linear Technology Corporation announces the LT3798, a single-stage isolated flyback driver with power factor correction. It achieves a power factor greater than 0.97 by actively modulating the input current, thus eliminating the need for an additional power switching stage and related components. Furthermore, an optical isolator or signal transformer is not required for feedback, as output voltage sensing is performed on the flyback signal on the primary side.

International Rectifier introduces the IRS2500S µPFC™ integrated control circuit with power factor correction (PFC) for switched-mode power supplies, LED drivers, and fluorescent and high-intensity discharge (HID) electronic ballasts.
The IRS2500S µPFC controller can be configured to operate in either boost or reverse PFC mode in critical conduction mode. The new device also incorporates a total harmonic distortion (THD) optimization circuit to reduce current harmonics on the line. The controller features high noise immunity, simplifying design and reducing system costs.

Linear Technology Corporation introduces the LTC4366, a surge protection controller for electronic systems. The LTC4366 floating transient surge suppressor, which operates from 9V to over 500V, uses an adjustable floating topology to enable very high voltage operation independent of the LTC4366's internal circuitry voltage.
