Due to the increasing demand for enhanced performance in automotive indicator systems, LEDs must meet stringent requirements in terms of efficiency, excellent brightness, low power consumption, and reliability. Based on a wide variety of packages, excellent heat dissipation, and high brightness, Rohm's new line meets these needs. Furthermore, the new SMLTx, SMLMs, and SMLZ families enable the production of OEM-specific colors such as lagoon blue, ice blue, sapphire blue, and blue-green, including pure green based on InGaN. Different package types and sizes provide designers with maximum flexibility for achieving optimal LED-based design solutions.
Key specifications of the SMLx, SML-Dx, and SML-Mx series: high-efficiency heat dissipation packages; PLCC2 packages, 0603 LED chip, 0603 and 0805 reflector, various lenses; package heights from 0.55 mm to 1.9 mm; IFmax from 20 to 60 mA; special colors for OEM; luminous intensity from 16 to 4800 mcd; white, standard colors blue to red, pastel; operating temperature range from -40 to +100 °C; peak forward current from 100 to 300 mA; reverse voltage from 5 to 12 V; forward voltage: 2.0 to 3.5 V @ 20 mA.
Furthermore, with the development of its new BD8377 series of LED drivers, Rohm offers a complete design solution for automotive indicators. This new integrated circuit is a 12-channel, 50 mA/channel LED driver in an SSOP-B20 package. It supports cascading to increase the number of channels and the number of LEDs that can be controlled. This device includes a 35 V open-drain DMOS output MOSFET for multi-control and energy efficiency, as well as low EMC noise on a controlled 20 V/µs slope output.
