Würth Elektronik has joined the group of organizations supporting the new MakerSpace, run by Susanne Klatten's non-profit organization, UnternehmerTUM GmbH. The high-tech MakerSpace prototyping workshop offers startups, corporate innovation teams, and DIY enthusiasts a place to bring their ideas and innovations to life in the form of prototypes and small production runs.
Würth Elektronik contributes with expert talks on EMC and electronics, support in the design and creation of a technical library, and expert consultations. Furthermore, MakerSpace users receive technical support in prototyping from application engineers, as well as a series of EMC pre-compliance tests. “We are delighted to be part of MakerSpace. It aligns with our corporate image as technology enablers. We provide students, startups, employees, and private initiatives with the opportunity to put their ideas into practice. We shorten time to market, increase scalability, and improve manufacturability,” explains Alexander Gerfer, CTO of the Würth Elektronik eiSos Group.
Cooperation for Innovation: Within the group of collaborating partners of the Munich Urban Colab business incubator for Smart City solutions, where MakerSpace is located, joint project ideas are generated, for example, for future IoT solutions. These joint projects facilitate technology transfer and cooperation between startups and established companies in pre-competitive research and development. By taking industry standards into account, they ensure the compatibility and interoperability of existing and future IoT architectures. The MakerSpace at Munich Urban Colab, which opened at the end of 2021 and in which Würth Elektronik now participates, occupies 1,200 square meters spread over two floors, and features 43 high-tech machines, specialized software, and training courses. Together with the existing facilities in Garching, MakerSpace now offers 2,700 square meters of high-tech equipment accessible to the public.
“We are proud and grateful to have Würth Elektronik eiSos as a competent partner who shares our entrepreneurial values. Together, we support the next generation of inventors at the Munich MakerSpace, helping them transform their ideas and creations into real products. Thanks to our strong partnership with Würth Elektronik eiSos, startups can receive professional guidance from the initial product sketch to series production,” says Florian Küster, Managing Director of UnternehmerTUM MakerSpace, who speaks directly to MakerSpace users: “We accelerate the creation of your prototypes by offering pre-sorted design kits. These kits contain electronic and electromechanical components, as well as elements for assembling printed circuit boards, ensuring the success of your project. Experts from Würth Elektronik and MakerSpace staff facilitate knowledge sharing and directly support startups in their search for innovative solutions.” We are working together to support your start-up and ensure the success of your project.".
MakerSpace is a high-tech environment open to the public, offering startups, DIY enthusiasts, and creative designers access to machines, tools, and software, as well as a community for mutual collaboration. Opened in 2015 as a subsidiary of UnternehmerTUM, Europe's largest innovation and startup hub, MakerSpace provides a space where ideas and innovations can be brought to life in the form of prototypes and small production runs. It features various work areas, including machine shops, metal and woodworking workshops, and textile and electrical processing workshops. Using 3D printers, laser cutters, and waterjet cutting machines, new shapes and forms can be created by processing different materials. To support networking, MakerSpace offers training and consulting services, as well as organizing events. MakerSpace has two locations: one with 1,500 m² on the Garching Research Campus and, since 2021, with 1,200 m² in the Munich Urban Colab business incubator, located in the center of the innovation district in Munich.
