This registry is voluntary, and since 2008, nearly 2,200 organizations have registered over 5,200 carbon footprints (as of February 18, 2022), including AIMPLAS, as part of its commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
AIMPLAS's registration of its carbon footprint with the Ministry is accompanied by a plan for its reduction, which, among other things, includes doubling the current installed photovoltaic energy capacity and prioritizing renewable energy sources in electricity purchases. Regarding energy efficiency, one of the objectives is to continue reducing fossil fuel consumption by promoting efficient driving and carpooling, improving the energy rating of the company's vehicle fleet and electrifying them, all while increasing the number of electric vehicle chargers available at AIMPLAS facilities.

Energy efficiency and emissions reduction are criteria that have guided AIMPLAS's growth, even in terms of its facilities. In 2020, a new 1,500-square-meter building housing laboratories and a pilot plant became operational. Designed from the outset with environmental sustainability in mind, it has become the first laboratory building in Spain to receive BREEAM certification. Furthermore
, AIMPLAS dedicates a significant portion of its R&D projects to researching new methods for capturing and utilizing CO2 and new materials for energy storage systems, contributing to the decarbonization of the economy. The goal is to develop efficient capture and separation systems to subsequently use the recovered carbon dioxide as a resource in the production of new plastics, and, in the case of energy, to store and use it efficiently.
