The IoT era brings new opportunities for traditional industries and business units evolving towards the next generation of products and services. To enable a wide range of IoT applications and standardize different platforms and technologies, an open platform for IoT sensors and sensor nodes has been established by sensor and module manufacturers for more efficient IoT development. By joining M2.COM, participants will define and drive this platform to empower the Internet of Things.

Miller Chang, Vice President of Advantech's Embedded Computing Group, comments: "Data collection will be one of the main challenges for IoT. Sensors, wireless technology, and embedded computing will be the three main core skills for data acquisition, and that's why Advantech has worked closely with industry partners to define the open standard M2.COM. With this standardization, we anticipate that M2.COM will accelerate the deployment of sensor devices for IoT.".

“A standards-based industrial computing and sensor format is key to meeting the evolving demands of the IoT market,” says Zach Shelby, Vice President of Marketing, IoT Business at ARM. “The ARM mbed™ operating system provides the perfect foundation for this new format, supporting the communication protocols and formats needed to securely and easily integrate M2.COM-based sensor devices with cloud-based IoT applications.”

“One of the key challenges hindering the rapid growth of IoT sensor-enabled devices in relevant markets today is the lack of a widely adopted open platform,” says Jeanne Forget, Vice President of Marketing at Bosch Sensortec. “For Bosch Sensortec, as a leader in MEMS and other sensor technologies, it is essential to actively participate in the development of open platforms like M2.COM. We believe that through collaboration with these competent partners, the open M2.COM platform will become a major driver for sensors in the IoT markets.”

"Data collection and the creation of smart systems and devices will move the IoT forward, if those things are able to interoperate or communicate with each other. Therefore, we are proud and convinced that we are doing the right thing by defining the M2.COM standard to simplify the development of IoT sensor integration," says Pascal Gerner, Director of Product Management at Sensirion.

“To accelerate change and unlock new business opportunities created by IoT, it’s important to have a platform that saves development time and cost with a standardized sensor interface, such as M2.COM, where developers can connect anything, anywhere,” said Olivier Monnier, Marketing Director for Wireless Connectivity/IoT Solutions at Texas Instruments. “By utilizing the low-power TI SimpleLink™ Wi-Fi® CC3200 wireless microcontroller, M2.COM IoT developers have access to the hardware that allows them to bring their designs to market quickly and easily.”

Advantech is reinforcing its vision of "Enabling an Intelligent Planet" to accelerate the adoption of IoT and smart city solutions and will continue to collaborate with its technology partners. Through the joint promotion of Advantech, ARM, Bosch Sensortec, Sensirion, and TI, we believe that M2.COM will enhance IoT sensing capabilities and accelerate the adoption of IoT and smart city solutions.
