Printed electronics in plastic or plasttronics, a line of research focused on the integration of flexible electronics in plastic materials, offers countless possibilities for innovation in product development that can find application in various sectors such as toys, energy, packaging or automotive.
One such application is the integration of pressure-sensitive sensors into toys. AIJU, the Institute for Children's Products and Leisure, is working on integrating the devices into toy demonstrators, while AIMPLAS, the Technological Institute of Plastics, is developing the devices themselves. Both are collaborating on the second year of the FLEXSENS project, supported by IVACE, the Valencian Institute of Competitiveness.
In the first year of the project, carried out in 2017, work was done on the study of materials and their compatibility, addressing the development of some first functional printed prototypes, while during this second year work is being done on the development of more advanced sensors and their final integration into demonstrators.
Recently approved by IVACE, with €170,189.76 in aid, and with co-financing from the EU's ERDF funds, within the ERDF Operational Programme of the Valencian Community 2014-2020, this second year of the project aims to obtain several prototypes as a demonstrator of the technology that will serve as a basis for the SMEs involved for the future exploitation of the results.
