This project represents a true milestone, boasting an energy storage capacity that was almost unimaginable until recently. The development of this battery system will play a crucial role in grid support in the medium to long term. It is worth noting that the power stations to be installed in this project will be 100% European-made, as will the integrated batteries within containers.
Ingeteam will supply the containerized lithium-ion batteries and power stations, including Ingeteam-branded converters and control solutions, as well as the necessary components for medium-voltage connection (transformer, cells, and auxiliary services). In addition, Ingeteam will carry out the on-site assembly and commissioning of the storage system.
Ingeteam recently commissioned the Arañuelo III photovoltaic plant, the first large-scale photovoltaic plant in Spain to incorporate a storage system, in this case a 3MW/9MWh battery system. Besides being the first large-scale solar plant in Spain to incorporate batteries, this project was innovative in that the battery storage system was installed within the photovoltaic plant in a distributed manner and using a DC-coupling configuration. In this configuration, the batteries are installed inside the solar array, and the battery converters share the DC connection with the photovoltaic inverters.
Ingeteam's scope of supply for the battery project in Italy:
- 59 fully integrated battery containers with auxiliary systems for cooling, automatic fire detection and suppression, etc. Each container will have a nominal capacity of 2.88MW/5.76MWh.
- 15 power stations equipped with everything necessary to inject power at medium voltage: Ingeteam inverters, LV/MV transformer, medium voltage switchgear, auxiliary services transformer, and auxiliary services panel.
- 59 INGECON® SUN STORAGE Power Series B battery inverters.
- The INGECON SUN Plant Controller control system.
- The SCADA monitoring system.
- Installation of the storage system.
- Commissioning of the storage system.
