"I'm proud that our Digital Sensor Interfaces submissions were accepted in Ludwigsburg," commented Dr. Patrick Popp, Chief Technology Officer of TE Transportation Solutions and a member of the event's advisory committee. "TE's advancement of digital sensor interfaces opens up a new opportunity to significantly reduce sensor wiring complexity while considerably improving sensor functionality.".
Key topics at SE TE include:
• Digital Sensor Interfaces – Today, a vehicle can be equipped with up to 150 sensors sending data to the control units. The prevalent point-to-point connections are responsible for much of the wiring complexity. Oliver Schaaf, TE Application Engineer and automotive sensor technology expert, will highlight digital sensor interfaces and present TE's bus-based solutions to overcome these challenges.
• Modular and Scalable MATEnet Connectors for Automotive Ethernet – TE will also outline its new MATEnet connectors, which provide the performance needed to transmit large volumes of data in vehicles, seamlessly managing the necessary data increase while supporting the cost-effective and reliable use of Ethernet in vehicles. This innovation is designed for complex automotive environments and can transmit up to 100 Mbit/s and 1 Gbit/s according to the IEEE Automotive Standard 100/1000 BASE-T1. MATEnet connectors provide high-speed, highly scalable Ethernet solutions based on proven automotive connectivity technology.
"The car is evolving from an ultimate industrial product to an ultimate technology product," said Popp. "As a result, both vehicle sensor networks and high-speed communication play a crucial role in enabling superior safety, greater range, enhanced connectivity, improved fuel efficiency, and lower emissions. All of this is essential for a better customer experience."
At this year's event, TE will also showcase its transparent car with a wide range of products and solutions for energy connectivity, convenience systems, miniaturization, advanced driver assistance systems, hybrid and electric mobility, and carbon dioxide emissions reduction. Visitors will see that TE connects virtually every electronic function in the car – from cloud connectivity services and alternative energy systems to infotainment.
TE has designed a wide range of automotive solutions, including technologies that support Ethernet and broadband capabilities, power terminals and connectors, and sensors with assessment capabilities for position, pressure, fluid control, and temperature. TE engineers are working to provide future connected cars and autonomous driving capabilities, and the company is collaborating with industry leaders and prominent organizations to develop global standards and requirements for networked car technology.
