ICEX Spain Export and Investment, together with the Spanish Economic and Commercial Offices in Morocco, organized a workshop this Tuesday to address the questions Spanish exporters are having regarding the system change. Through connections with ten regional offices, more than 300 companies had the opportunity to ask practical questions to representatives of the three certification bodies, who traveled to the ICEX auditorium in Madrid.
The regulation divides products subject to inspection into two groups: those controlled at the point of origin, representing 80%, and the remaining 20%, which will be controlled at the border. Exporters can freely contact any of the three certification bodies to obtain certification at the point of origin (as they are responsible for the cost), while border controls will be assigned automatically and randomly.
The review will be carried out on a per-shipment basis and, depending on the product and the type of exporter, may be purely documentary or involve sampling, physical inspection, or even laboratory testing.
The transitional period for certification at origin (date of shipment) began on February 1st and will extend until April 19th (date of arrival in Morocco).
According to the certifiers, products subject to technical regulations that are not on the list of products subject to control upon arrival in Moroccowill be inspected at origin before shipment.
