This system, which has a capacity of 600 kVA and 1,330 kWh, is now operational, marking a milestone in CIUDEN's energy storage and green hydrogen production project, framed within the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR) and financed with the European Union's Next Generation funds.
The commissioning of the nBESS system reinforces the objective of the City of Energy Foundation (CIUDEN), a state-owned public sector entity under the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO) and affiliated with the Institute for Just Transition (ITJ), to become a leader in the research and validation of technologies related to green hydrogen generation and energy storage. This system will enable the development and testing of innovative solutions that contribute to the transition to a more sustainable and efficient energy model.
The commissioning of this system highlights the crucial role that energy storage plays in the transition to a decarbonized energy model. Technologies like nBESS are fundamental to overcoming challenges such as the intermittency of renewable energy sources, improving energy efficiency, and promoting self-sufficiency in industrial and residential facilities.
"At Norvento, we believe that without energy storage, the transition to a more sustainable model is unfeasible. Projects like the one developed with CIUDEN exemplify how innovation can facilitate solutions that bring us closer to the goal of building a more energy-efficient and committed planet," highlighted Juan Morilla, Operations Director of Norvento Enerxía.
“CIUDEN faces the challenge of supporting research, development, and innovation initiatives related to renewable energy generation, storage, and minimizing potential adverse environmental impacts, acting as a driver for the development of energy storage technologies and renewable hydrogen. This newly commissioned lithium-ion battery storage system will allow us to integrate it into a hybrid system and validate its technological potential,” stated Javier Quiñones, Executive Director of R&D&I at the City of Energy Foundation.
