The acquisition is a strategic move for Indra, positioning TESS as the prime contractor for the Spanish Army's current and future armored vehicle programs, such as the VCR 8x8 (Wheeled Combat Vehicle), VAC (Tracked Support Vehicle), and their derivatives and subsequent phases. This opportunity translates into access to a potential order book in Spain worth over €10 billion for land-based armored vehicles over the next 15 years, with more than 700 vehicles on firm orders and additional opportunities for over a thousand more. This also includes modernizations and new platforms, as well as maintenance and support throughout the vehicle lifecycle. Globally, taking into account exports and including recurring maintenance, TESS's potential order book exceeds €30 billion over the next twenty years.
TESS will act as the prime contractor for the programs, perform the synthesis and integration engineering of the vehicles, and assume responsibility for final assembly and delivery. To this end, TESS will be responsible for defining and executing the industrial management of the programs, including (but not limited to) program management, financial management, client liaison, subcontractor management, quality assurance throughout the product lifecycle, and maintenance.
Furthermore, to acquire the necessary industrial and technological capabilities to fulfill its mission, TESS plans to establish a center in Asturias to consolidate its industrial and design engineering resources. This facility will focus on attracting talent to maintain and strengthen high-quality, high-value-added jobs with significant technological impact.
This new configuration of TESS aligns with Spain's industrial strategy to achieve sovereignty and strategic autonomy both within Spain and in Europe, and provides the Ministry of Defense with a central entity for the development of land defense vehicles. It also optimizes the operation of TESS's current programs and ensures a more agile and effective implementation of strategic national projects.
