Indra and Amey will develop and integrate digital signaling solutions compliant with open standards and the highest safety levels, including digital interlocking systems and the European Rail Traffic Control System (ETCS) technology. This technology could guarantee the safety of rail traffic by continuously monitoring train speeds and facilitating automatic braking if traffic does not conform to existing signaling conditions, as well as optimizing the distance between trains and, therefore, line capacity.

Likewise, the development and use of technologies that allow the automation of the design and verification testing of these solutions is planned, as well as the possibility of incorporating AI in the design, development and testing phases.

“This agreement with Amey allows us to advance in the railway sector with a pioneering open signalling proposal, as well as strengthen our presence in the United Kingdom, a market we are committed to with a long-term vision and in which we are achieving important milestones and projects with top-tier clients in the field of transport and mobility,” explains Raúl Ripio, director of Indra’s Mobility business.

James Holmes, Amey's rail sector director, notes that “with the considerable investment in the UK's rail infrastructure, it is critical that every project delivers a safe and reliable rail service for both passenger and freight traffic. The collaboration between Amey and Indra offers a unique approach to the rail market. Combining our project delivery expertise with world-class mobility control technology has created an innovative digital signaling solution that is scalable and adaptable to meet the challenges of the UK's historic rail infrastructure.”
