The project will allow Extrugasa to meet up to 25% of the energy demand of its facilities through renewable sources generated on site, and will have a positive environmental impact similar to that of planting around 93,000 trees in the area, since in this way the emission of 932 tons of CO2 equivalent per year into the atmosphere will be avoided.
Furthermore, the facility will serve as a base for future energy self-consumption projects for Extrugasa, as it will allow the company to combine it with energy storage systems.
The project will be carried out in a strategic area for the aluminum sector, since approximately 60% of Spain's aluminum is processed in its vicinity.
Luis Jiménez, head of Photovoltaics and Storage business at Norvento Enerxía, points out that “as a society, we must actively pursue the decarbonization of our economy if we want to achieve a sustainable growth model.”
For his part, José Manuel Miragaya, Head of Business Development and Sales at Norvento Enerxía, stated, “We are pleased to be able to help Extrugasa move forward in this direction, towards a more sustainable and competitive model that will allow us to address the challenges of an energy market currently characterized by high costs.”
Francisco Quintá Barros, CEO of Extrugasa, indicated that “aluminum has the great advantage of being an infinitely recyclable material that allows for the manufacture of profiles with a vast array of designs, giving it an increasingly valued status. Now, Extrugasa is taking another step forward and adding to the virtues of aluminum the fact that the profiles manufactured by Extrugasa will have a smaller carbon footprint, offering a high-quality product with a reduced environmental impact.”
