OpenTAP focuses on simplicity, scalability, and speed through test automation to create a more efficient world. OpenTAP aims to make test automation easier and more accessible for everyone, fostering shared experimentation and innovation to inspire and teach partners better ways to automate.
According to Norman Hussain, Vice President of Software Development and Strategic Business at Pickering Interfaces, "OpenTAP aligns with Pickering's ethos of empowering test engineers to develop the best possible solutions for their specific automated testing requirements. We don't want to limit anyone developing the next test platform by restricting them to choosing a standard form factor from a limited catalog of test hardware; that's why we have over 2,000 modular switching and simulation products. Having an open-source solution offers a similar approach to test software, allowing test engineers to build, modify, and customize their test applications without having to pay thousands of dollars in licenses and be locked into proprietary solutions."
The Pickering Card Plugin for OpenTAP supports the entire Pickering product portfolio through a single interface. The plugin is supplied with open-source software, distributed under the MIT Open Source License. It allows thousands of application engineers to leverage industry-leading switching hardware. They can customize the plugin, fix bugs, request features, and contribute changes and suggestions to the OpenTAP ecosystem.
Hussain states, "Test engineers can use OpenTAP to help solve new challenges in test automation and systems design, while retaining their intellectual property."
