Renesas has developed a wide range of IP solutions. This includes standalone CPUs and peripheral IP modules, as well as subsystems such as bus controllers and interrupt controllers that connect to IP modules. All these IP assets share the high level of reliability and quality expected from a vertically integrated semiconductor device provider, responsible for every stage from design to manufacturing. Renesas also offers technical support based on its unparalleled experience as a semiconductor manufacturer.
Manufacturers interested in developing custom chips for applications such as artificial intelligence (AI), autonomous vehicles, and robots can leverage Renesas IP in the design of their subsystems, allowing them to focus on developing their own competitive IP assets and thus accelerate the advanced semiconductor development process. Furthermore, manufacturers using FPGA devices for early development can utilize Renesas IP assets to accelerate software development, enabling early evaluation and faster time to market, and then immediately transitioning to mass production. On the other hand, customers who prefer to use existing software assets can continue to utilize Renesas IP assets, reducing the labor required to develop, verify, and evaluate software and boards, and enabling more efficient system development.
Previously, Renesas provided IP assets to select clients. This new effort to expand IP sales marks Renesas' entry into the IP licensing market, which is growing at a rate of over 10 percent annually and is expected to be worth around one trillion yen by 2025. Renesas aims to achieve sales of over ten billion yen by 2025. Going forward, Renesas intends to capture and expand growth in the IP market by offering clients the ability to customize their IP, as well as by licensing existing IP assets.
