The REPARA 2.0 project aims to develop new technologies and methodologies that support infrastructure management and allow the rehabilitation and conservation of any type of road at a lower economic and environmental cost, improving its adaptation to climate change.
Sacyr Construcción leads the consortium formed by the companies Acciona Infraestructuras, Fractalia, CHM, Repsol, and the SMEs Inzamac, Cemosa, and Solid Forest. The following research groups complete this partnership: Center for Energy, Environmental and Technological Research (CIEMAT); University of Málaga (UMA); University of Granada (UGR); University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM); Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC); Center for Studies and Experimentation of Public Works (CEDEX); Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM); Murcia Metal Technology Center (CTM); University of Alcalá de Henares (UAH); University of Cantabria (UNICAM); and the CARTIF Foundation.
New analysis and prediction tools.
Within the framework of the project, a new instrumentation/sensor system will be developed for the dynamic monitoring of the road surface. Progress will be made in the study and development of technologies to increase the energy autonomy and wireless communication of the sensors embedded in the road. New Big Data techniques will also be used to define models that allow for more reliable prediction of road deterioration.
The deployed network will include sensors to measure stress and strain variables, providing information on the pavement's structural condition. Thanks to the use of temperature and humidity sensors, the influence of environmental variables on stress and strain values can be analyzed. Since weight also affects road degradation, new monitoring instruments will be developed.
The deployed sensors will allow the concept of resilience applied to the road to be homogenized and parameterized based on four dimensions: traffic, pavement structure (resistance and deformations), slope stability and drainage status to guarantee user safety and comfort.
