in the development and manufacture of market-accredited power devices, it will allow the development of GaN power devices with a breakdown voltage of 600 V optimized for a wide range of power supply systems.

ROHM has already established a serial production system for 150V GaN HEMTs featuring a revolutionary 8V non-disruptive gate voltage in March 2022. This will allow ROHM to expand its new EcoGaN™ range for power circuits in industrial and IoT communication equipment (i.e., base stations and data centers), while improving device performance.

Kazuhide Ino, CEO, ROHM Co., Ltd.
“ROHM is extremely pleased to announce the strategic partnership for the manufacture of GaN power devices with Delta, a global leader in thermal and power management. As power semiconductors—a key focus area for ROHM—play an increasingly important role in the pursuit of a decarbonized society, ROHM will continue to develop advanced devices across a wide range of fields using Si, SiC, and GaN, along with solutions that combine peripheral components such as control integrated circuits to maximize their performance.”

This partnership will enable ROHM to mass-produce GaN power devices that can contribute to the configuration of more efficient power systems, as well as develop GaN intelligent power modules (IPMs) that integrate analog integrated circuits (one of ROHM's strengths) at an early stage, further expanding our range of user-friendly products.".

Mark Ko, Vice President, Delta Electronics, Inc.
“The development of GaN power devices is of great interest to the global electronics industry. We have been working with ROHM for many years and are very pleased that this long-standing technical exchange is finally yielding results that will be a milestone for both companies and bring us even closer together.”

In addition to this GaN collaboration, Delta is looking to further strengthen its product range as a key business strategy, with high expectations for product development by leveraging ROHM's strengths in analog (nano) technologies, among others. We believe that strengthening our collaboration with ROHM will allow us to offer a broad range of solutions that meet the global market's needs for power supplies.

Improving the efficiency of motors and power supplies, which account for the majority of global electricity consumption, has become a critical task for achieving a decarbonized society. Since power devices are key to improving efficiency, the adoption of new materials such as SiC and GaN is expected to further enhance power supply efficiency. ROHM and Delta have a long history of technological exchanges and cooperative relationships in developing diverse applications. This partnership will enable both companies to develop and mass-produce the industry's most advanced GaN power devices, maximizing GaN's performance to accelerate innovation in energy technology and contribute to a sustainable society.

What is EcoGaN™?
EcoGaN™ is ROHM's new range of GaN devices that contribute to energy savings and miniaturization by maximizing GaN's low conduction resistance and high-speed switching characteristics to achieve lower power consumption in applications, smaller peripheral components, and simpler designs requiring fewer parts.
