This will entail increased infrastructure capacity, meeting the highest safety standards, as well as significant cost reductions throughout the entire lifecycle, offering greater profitability, flexible maintenance, and space and energy savings for the customer.
The commissioning in Barcelona of this platform, developed in Spain, represents the first implementation in the Southwest European market of a cloud-based interlocking system that meets the highest level of safety required for railway signaling systems (SIL4 – Safety Integrity Level 4).
The WESTRACE@DS3 (Distributed Smart Safe System) ensures standardized operational and functional service for signaling systems. Furthermore, it is a fully scalable platform, compatible with a wide variety of existing systems, and supports different communication standards in the industry.
All these features represent a key milestone in the future of mobility. “The digitization of railway signaling systems is crucial for increasing train capacity and safety, as well as reducing operating costs and ensuring a lower carbon footprint. We are very proud to support FGC in this project, which will mark a turning point in the operation of its infrastructure,” says Agustín Escobar, CEO of Siemens Mobility Spain and Southwest Europe.
The president of Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya, Marta Subirà, emphasizes: “At FGC, we strive for maximum efficiency in railway service management and incorporate industry innovations and trends into all areas of the company with the ultimate goal of offering the highest quality of service. Technological and digital solutions like Siemens' allow us to continue being a leading company in customer service and a driving force in energy efficiency and reducing polluting emissions.”
