In February 2023, the Eclipse Foundation delivered over 12.3 million downloads of certified Java SE TCK and AQAvit-verified Eclipse Temurin binaries—more than double the number delivered in the same month last year. Eclipse Temurin has also become the default Java option for GitHub Actions and numerous widely used cloud container images. Amid this resurgence of the entire open-source Java ecosystem, millions of developers and enterprise users are turning to the Adoptium Marketplace for their open Java runtime environments. Furthermore, the Adoptium Working Group is welcoming new strategic and enterprise members such as Bloomberg, Google, and Rivos.

The Adoptium Working Group, founded by numerous participants including many Java developers and vendors such as Alibaba Cloud, Azul, Huawei, IBM, iJUG, Microsoft, and Red Hat, provides the Java ecosystem with fully compatible, high-quality Java distributions based on the OpenJDK open source code. The Eclipse Adoptium project and the Adoptium Working Group are a continuation of the original goal of AdoptOpenJDK, which was established in 2017 to address the lack of an open, vendor-independent, and reproducible development and testing system for OpenJDK across various platforms.
