SEMI membership will give Volkswagen access to SEMI's core competencies in developing international standards and harmonizing technology roadmaps, while enabling the automaker to leverage the global SEMI platform to promote industry alignment across supply chain segments.

Volkswagen is a founding member of the SEMI Global Automotive Advisory Council (GAAC). Anchoring the SEMI Smart Transportation vertical market platform, GAAC members address automotive technology challenges such as device and system reliability and connectivity, promote industry standards, and align automakers' roadmaps with adjacent industries to accelerate time to market. The GAAC has chapters in Europe, the United States, Japan, and Taiwan.

According to Dr. Rolf Zöller, Head of Electrical/Electronic Development, Volkswagen AG, “With connected, safe, and secure electronics as the backbone of automated mobility and autonomous driving, aligning supply chain requirements and jointly mapping the roadmap are essential for the future success of the automotive industry.”.

Smart Transportation is one of five SEMI vertical market platforms designed to bring together players in critical industry segments to advance innovation and help drive segment growth.
