In many industrial applications, cooling of heat sinks relies on the use of fans and blowers. However, there are applications where active cooling is not possible or even permitted. In harsh environments or applications where the required level of reliability necessitates eliminating any potential risk of failure, fans and blowers are not allowed. A sealed enclosure, such as one required for laser cutting, is just one example, but there is also a growing demand for equipment installed in supervisory rooms or even offices where, for the comfort and health of employees, the noise generated is simply not permitted or must be severely limited.
Conduction cooling requires very specific construction practices, and the PRBX OFI700A has been designed to ensure optimal heat transfer from the heat sinks to the motherboard, delivering high performance within an operating temperature range of -40 to +95 degrees Celsius on the motherboard. Depending on the mounting method and overall cooling conditions, a power reduction may apply, as specified in the technical documentation.
To cover a wide range of applications, the OFI700A operates with a broad universal input range of 85 to 264VAC. The unit includes a PFC with a coefficient of 0.95/0.92 (110VAC/230VAC). For DC bus-powered applications, such as mining equipment, the OFI700A operates from 120 to 350VDC.
The OFI700A is available in three single-output DC voltage versions: 12V/58.4A, 28V/25A, and 48V/14.6A. The output voltage can be adjusted using the built-in potentiometer. For example, the 28V output can be adjusted from 22.4V to 33.6V, covering 24V applications. An additional 12V/0.1A output is provided for auxiliary functions.
For applications requiring 1+1 redundancy, two units can be connected in parallel by adding an external diode for protection. Using a diode for this purpose is a simple solution, but it increases power losses, which, depending on the output current, can reach up to 30W. Therefore, to maintain maximum efficiency when operating in redundancy mode, an "Option O" version of the OFI700A is available with an active ORing circuit using high-performance FET technology. In this version, power losses are minimized to an excellent figure of less than 1.5 W.
For safety, the OFI700A has an IN/OUT isolation of 3,000 VAC and an IN/FG isolation of 2,000 VAC. The output-to-FG isolation is 500 VAC. The power supply includes overcurrent protection with automatic recovery, overvoltage protection, and overtemperature protection.
The OFI700A board provides easy access to auxiliary functions via its connectors, including remote control, output voltage detection, DC-OK, inverter operating mode (IOG), and auxiliary 12V.
The OFI700A has undergone shock and vibration testing as specified in MIL-STD-810H. Specifically, the product has been tested at levels far exceeding normal operating conditions and is designed to withstand a high vibration level of 20G during shipping.
In its open-frame configuration, the OFI700A measures 126 x 38 x 250 mm (4.96 x 1.5 x 9.84 inches) and weighs a maximum of 0.95 kg. An optional metal cover is available, adding only 2 mm to the height and 150 grams to the weight (Option N).
The OFI700A is certified according to UL62368-1, C-UL (equivalent to CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 62368-1), and EN62368-1 standards.
The OFI700A series has a full three-year warranty and complies with European RoHS, REACH, and Low Voltage Directives. The product bears the UL, CE, and UKCA marks.
