Fire safety is always a top priority when constructing and maintaining all buildings, especially skyscrapers. These new buildings incorporate intelligent fire protection systems, which generally consist of two components: an automatic alarm system and a fire suppression system.
OLFER Electronics presents the new DIN rail power supply with intelligent safety from our manufacturer MEAN WELL, the DRS series. The most interesting feature of the DRS-240/480 is its multifunctional integration, which includes an AC-DC power supply, battery charger, DC-UPS, and communication monitor in a single compact device. The DRS series can monitor the status of the power supply system in real time and alert users to irregularities, thus reducing the workload on personnel and lowering maintenance costs. Furthermore, it minimizes equipment troubleshooting time and improves the reliability of the power supply system.
The DRS series has several models available with different voltages (12/24/36/48V) to suit any system. It also features LED alarm signals and a Type C relay, enabling operators to quickly determine the cause of a system power failure. Data exchange between the main control system and the backup power supply can be achieved via MODBus or CANBus communication, allowing for the display of various system information to facilitate corrective action in case of a failure. The UPS backup function not only supports automatic switchover to battery power after an AC mains failure, but can also be forced to battery power via the built-in forced start function when AC mains power is unavailable. The SBP-001 intelligent programmer or the built-in communication protocol, compatible with various lead-acid and lithium-ion battery charging applications, can be used to adjust the battery charging curve.

Case Study:
The adaptability of the DRS series allows it to be integrated into a wide range of security and fire protection systems. The security system power distribution cabinet shown below consists of the DRS-480-24 power supply, backup battery pack, and alarm control module. DRS series products are used to replace the traditional power distribution cabinet design, which can greatly reduce space requirements and simplify wiring, thus facilitating installation.

In addition to being suitable for fire alarm control systems, the DRS series can provide power for emergency lighting systems, ensuring the necessary illumination within buildings during emergencies.
