Power supply users are widely distributed across the globe. This means manufacturers must contend with the variety of operating voltages, temperatures, and environments in different markets; therefore, ensuring the stability and reliability of the electrical system is essential. Failure to comply with design standards and application conditions would have adverse effects on the lifespan and reliability of both the power supply and the end devices.

De-rating Specifications
There are two common conditions for power de-rating electrical products:
1. Input voltage
2. Operating temperature.
Working with the recommended de-rating output under operating conditions can alleviate the deterioration of power supply stability caused by excessive component temperatures and ensure that critical components do not exceed their thermal limits.
CINCON AC-DC Power Supply De-rating Curve
In addition to the high efficiency and good heat dissipation design of the product, Media MicroComputer partner CINCON's AC-DC power supplies provide power de-rating curves as a reference for design applications in the datasheet and application note.
For example, the CFM202S not only provides power de-rating curves based on different input voltages and ambient temperatures, but also subdivides them for different packages according to airflow to ensure safe and reliable operation for product users.

Due to the excellent thermal dissipation characteristics of the Baseplate Cooling technology, CINCON also offers De-rating curves with larger heat sinks to simulate better thermal dissipation performance when the CFM202S is attached to the metal casing of the end user's device.

CINCON DC-DC Power Derating Curves:
CINCON DC-DC converters feature high performance and a package design that allows for more even heat dissipation across the product's surface. This results in a safe operating temperature range below the maximum case temperature. Derating curves are provided in the datasheet and application note as a recommended reference for design applications when considering the installation of heat sinks for the DC-DC converter.

In real-world applications in end products, varying heat dissipation conditions result in different thermal resistances and safe output power ratings. Therefore, the application note provides an efficiency vs. load (Io) curve and a power rating (Pd) vs. ambient temperature curve to enable end-product designers to calculate the safe derating power within specification requirements.

Efficiency curve versus load Io and Pd curve versus ambient temperature:
For example, Vin: 180Vdc, Current load 100%, the power dissipation could be calculated by comparing the Efficiency, allowing the designer to understand what the output power would be at the corresponding ambient temperature.

Pd vs Po curve and Pd vs Ambient Temperature curve:
For example, Vin: 180Vdc, Output Power 90%, check the Pd vs Po curve to find the corresponding power dissipation and to know how the power product works at that ambient temperature.

In conclusion, we can highlight that CINCON's power product specifications (including those with heatsinks) were verified by temperature-controlled equipment at the same ambient temperature. However, in general, the actual temperatures inside and outside the final products are not the same. There is an even greater temperature difference between the inside and outside of many metal-cased end products. Therefore, CINCON power products have more effective heat dissipation performance when they can be mounted to the chassis of the final device.

With the trend toward smaller end-user equipment on the market, product designers have higher requirements regarding power supply dimensions, power density, and operating temperature. Providing a high-quality, stable, and reliable power supply for fanless applications is a constant goal for CINCON. As an expert in power supply design, CINCON continues to strive for optimization. Based on many experiences and practical applications of products in different markets shared by customers and distributors, in the future, CINCON will develop and launch more food products that meet market demands.
