This new EEPROM is designed for the competitive consumer electronics market and is capable of operating within a wide voltage range of 1.7V to 3.6V. The 34AA04 complies with JEDEC JC42.4 (EE1004-v) Serial Presence Detect (SPD) and is designed to be compatible with DDR4 SDRAM modules. The 34AA04 includes reverse write protection for each of its four independent 128 x 8 bit blocks and supports the timeout of the new SMBus-compatible bus. The device also features page write capability of up to 16 bytes of data, and three address pins allow for up to eight devices to be connected on the same bus.
The 34AA04 is backward compatible with existing DDR2 and DDR3 SPD EEPROMs. To ensure compatibility with these devices, the 34AA04's memory array is divided into two separate 256-byte banks, matching the architecture of older SPD EEPROM devices. The 34AA04 targets a wide range of applications within the consumer electronics market, including PCs, laptops, graphics cards, and other products.
Microchip has been supplying SPD EEPROM to the DRAM market in previous DDR1, DDR2, and DDR3 platforms, and protection against reverse software writes in four individual blocks, higher data transmission speeds, and SMBus compatibility give DRAM manufacturers greater flexibility to deliver new features in the PC, laptop, and high-speed graphics card markets.
The EEPROM 34AA04 is now available for sampling and volume production and is supplied in 8-pin SOIC, TDFN, UDFN, TSSOP and PDIP packages.
