The main applications of these photovoltaic relays include building automation systems such as heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and security, as well as fire alarms. They can also be used in various types of industrial equipment, such as programmable logic controllers (PLCs), I/O interfaces, and sensor control hardware. Their 5000Vrms (minimum) isolation voltage allows them to be used where high levels of isolation are required, and their operating temperature range of -40°C to 110°C enables installation in harsh environments.

The Toshiba 1-Form-B photorelay carries a current of 1.2A
Toshiba Electronics Europe GmbH has expanded its optoelectronics portfolio with the TLP4590A photorelay. Supplied in a compact DIP6 package, it provides engineers with a more practical and reliable alternative to conventional mechanical relays. This 1-Form-B (normally closed) photorelay conducts a current of 1.2A, representing a 140% improvement over the company's previous generation TLP4176A device. Furthermore, its output terminal voltage is 60V with no conduction. Its sensitivity is enhanced by its low LED trigger current of 2mA (maximum).
