With its 100 MIPS performance, the dsPIC33CK core nearly doubles the performance of previous single-core dsPIC® DSCs, making it ideal for motor control, digital power supplies, and other applications requiring sophisticated algorithms, such as automotive sensors and industrial automation. It is specifically designed to control multiple sensorless and brushless motors running field-oriented control algorithms and power factor correction.
The new DSCs also facilitate the functional safety certification required by numerous applications in automotive, medical, and household appliances, where safe operation and shutdown in case of failure are critical. The devices integrate functional safety features for maximum safety designs, such as Built-In Self-Test (BIST) to check RAM status and functionality; a timer for monitoring application software status through periodic timer interrupts within a specified time window; two watchdog timers (WDT); an
Error Correction Code (ECC) for Flash; a Brown Out Reset (BOR); a Power On Reset (POR); and a Fail Safe Clock Monitor (FSCM).
The dsPIC33CK family incorporates a CAN-FD communication bus compatible with the new automotive communication standards.
It comes with a high level of analog integration, including high-speed (3.5 Msps) A/D converters, analog comparators with D/A converters, and operational amplifiers, enabling smaller, lower-cost motor control applications. The DSCs offer PWM with 250 ps resolution, ideal for advanced digital power supply topologies. Instant firmware updates (up to two 128 KB blocks) are also available for high-availability systems, which is especially important for digital power supplies.
The dsPIC33CK is supported by Microchip's MPLAB® development ecosystem, consisting of Microchip's award-winning, free, downloadable MPLAB X Integrated Development Environment (IDE), MPLAB Code Configurator, XC16 C Compiler, and MPLAB in-circuit programming and debugging tools.
The dsPIC33CK Curiosity board (DM330030), priced at $39.99, is an affordable and flexible platform that allows customers to quickly create a feature-rich prototype and will be available in November. Motor control PIMs, priced at $25.00 each, incorporate internal (MA330041-2) and external (MA330041-1) operational amplifiers for Microchip's MCLV-2 and MCHV-2/3 systems. The dsPIC33CK PIM for general-purpose application platforms (MA330042), priced at $25.00, is supplied for the Explorer 16/32 development board (DM240001-2). The Digital Power Supply Basic Kit (DPSK-3, DM330017-3) is being updated to incorporate the dsPIC33CK256MP508, is priced at $129.99 and will be available in October.
The dsPIC33CK is supplied in eight packages, including 28- to 80-pin packages with a size starting at 5 x 5 mm. Its memory capacity ranges from 32 to 256 KB of Flash.
