ST's STM32H7 microcontrollers are based on a 32-bit Arm Cortex®-M7 core with a double-precision floating-point unit (FPU), up to 2 MB of flash memory, and 1 MB of RAM. These microcontrollers incorporate hardware-based security features, including a true random number generator (TRNG) and an advanced cryptographic processor, which will simplify the protection of embedded applications and global Internet of Things (IoT) systems against attacks.
To enable secure firmware uploads, security keys and software services on the microcontroller allow original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to provide manufacturing partners with pre-encrypted firmware, eliminating the possibility of intercepting, copying, or altering the code. This enables the device to be programmed and authenticated to establish the root of trust mechanism necessary for the device to connect to the end-user network and be remotely updated over the air (OTA) to apply security patches or feature updates throughout the device's lifecycle.
The devices offer enhanced performance through Chrom-ART Accelerator™ for fast and efficient graphical user interfaces, a hardware JPEG codec enabling high-speed image manipulation, highly efficient direct memory access (DMA) controllers, and L1 cache that allows for high-speed interaction with off-chip memory. Multiple power domains allow engineers to minimize the energy consumed by their applications, while inputs and outputs (I/Os), communication interfaces, and audio and analog peripherals can support a wide range of entertainment, remote control, and management applications.
Mouser Electronics, Inc. is distributing STM32H7 series microcontrollers from STMicroelectronics (ST). The high-performance STM32H7 microcontrollers are designed with the same security concepts as the Arm® Platform Security Architecture (PSA) framework and combine these principles with the enhanced security features and services of the STM32 family to improve the protection of connected smart devices.
