The new PIC32MX1/2 microcontroller series boasts a wide range of features, including performance up to 50 MHz/83 DMIPS for running advanced control applications and mTouch® capacitive touch sensing. It also incorporates an enhanced 8-bit Parallel Master Port (PMP) for graphics or external memory; a 10-bit, 1 MSPS, 13-channel A/D converter; support for SPI and I2S serial communications; and USB device/host/On-the-Go (OTG) functionality.

Microchip's MPLAB® Harmony software development environment further simplifies designs by integrating the licensing, resale, and support of real-time middleware, drivers, libraries, and operating systems from both Microchip and third parties. Specifically, software packages readily available from Microchip, such as USB stacks and graphics and touch libraries, can significantly reduce application development time in areas such as consumer, industrial, and general-purpose embedded control.

Designers aiming to launch consumer products with capacitive touchscreens, buttons, or touch controls, as well as USB device/host/OTG functionality, can leverage the capabilities of the PIC32MX1/2 microcontroller series. The powerful peripherals of these microcontrollers are also ideal for medical and industrial applications, including displays with touch-sensing capabilities in addition to general-purpose embedded control and connectivity features.

The new PIC32MX1/2 series is supported by Microchip's free MPLAB® X integrated development environment and its MPLAB XC32 compiler for PIC32. Also available are the MPLAB ICD 3 in-circuit debugger (DV164035) for $199.95 and the MPLAB REAL ICE™ in-circuit emulation system (DV244005) for $499.98. Additionally, the following plug-in development module is compatible with this series: the PIC32MX270F256D for Explorer 16 (MA320014).

These new PIC32MX1/2 microcontrollers are now available in 28-pin QFN, SPDIP and SSOP packages, as well as 44-pin QFN, TQFP and VTLA packages.
