A key advantage of using a K83 microcontroller in CAN-based systems is that CIPs provide a deterministic response to real-time events, shorten design time, and can be easily configured using the MPLAB® Code Configurator (MCC). The new family is ideal for CAN-based applications in the medical, industrial, and automotive markets, such as motorized operating tables, asset tracking, ultrasound machines, conveyor belts, and automotive accessories. CIPs allow system designers to reduce time to market by quickly configuring a hardware-based peripheral instead of programming and validating all the software required to perform a task.
The PIC18 K83 devices contain 15 time-saving CIPs, including: Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC) with memory sweep to ensure the integrity of non-volatile memory; Direct Memory Access (DMA) for transferring data between memory and peripherals without CPU involvement; Windowed Watchdog Timer (WWDT) for triggering system reboots; 12-bit A/D Converter with Calculations (ADC2) for automating the analysis of analog signals and
obtaining real-time system feedback; and a Complementary Waveform Generator (CWG) for high-efficiency synchronous switching for motor control. For more information on these and other CIPs, visit the 8-bit Microcontroller Design Center.
The new products are supported by MPLAB Code Configurator (MCC), a free software extension that provides a graphical interface for configuring peripherals and application-specific functions. MCC is integrated into Microchip's downloadable Integrated Development Environment (IDE) and cloud-based MPLAB Xpress IDE. The family also includes support for the Curiosity High Pin Count (HPC) development board (DM162136).
The PIC18F25K83 with 32 KB of Flash memory and the PIC18F26K83 with 64 KB of Flash memory are now available for sampling and volume production. All of these are supplied in 28-pin SPDIP, SOIC, SSOP, UQFN, and QFN packages.
