CAN FD offers numerous advantages over traditional CAN 2.0, such as faster data transmission speeds and expanded data byte messages. The advanced MCP2517FD driver for CAN FD can be used with any microcontroller and allows developers to easily implement this technology without completely redesigning the system. Since the adoption of and transition to CAN FD are still in their early stages, there are currently a limited number of microcontrollers available for CAN FD. Furthermore, changing the system's microcontroller can be costly, as well as involve increased development time and risk. The MCP2517FD allows system designers to add CAN FD functionality by adding a single external component while retaining most of their existing design.
The MCP2517FD also allows designers to easily integrate other CAN FD channels that may be available on a microcontroller.
The main board for the MCP251XFD CAN FD (Part #ADM00576), along with the MCP2517FD Click Board (Part #MIKROE-2379), provides a simple and low-cost evaluation board for implementing a CAN FD design. A firmware API written in C is also available for rapid application development.
The MCP2517FD-H/SL is now available and comes in a 14-pin SOIC package for sampling and volume production. The MCP2517FD-H/JHA is now available and comes in a 14-pin VQFN package with wettable edges for sampling and volume production.
