The MGC3030, supplied in an SSOP28 package for ease of manufacturing, extends the use of highly sought-after 3D gesture control features to high-volume, cost-sensitive applications such as toys, audio, and lighting.
To further simplify the design process and accelerate time to market, the MGC3030 leverages the development tools of the GestIC family. For example, Microchip's Colibri Gesture Suite, an integrated software library of user-friendly gesture functions, recognizes intuitive and natural human hand movements, making device operation functional, intuitive, and fun. Without touching the device, features such as snapping, circling, and proximity sensing gestures allow users to perform actions like changing audio tracks, adjusting volume, or changing backlighting. All gestures are processed on-chip, enabling manufacturers to create powerful user interfaces with minimal development effort.
A unique feature of GestIC technology is its programmable proximity-activated auto-activation function, which consumes as little as 100 microwatts during operation and enables always-on gesture sensing in power-constrained applications. If user interaction is detected, the system automatically switches to full sensing mode and returns to auto-activation mode when the user leaves the detection area. This combination of features and capabilities allows engineers to quickly integrate gesture sensing functions at prices ideal for high-volume devices.
To enable development with the MGC3030, Microchip today announced the Woodstar MGC3030 Development Kit (DM160226), priced at $139. The kit includes the AUREA graphical user interface, the primary tool for configuring the MGC3030, as well as the Colibri Gesture Suite to meet the needs of any design. AUREA is available as a free download, and the Colibri Gesture Suite is an extensive library of tested, natural 3D hand and finger gestures pre-programmed into the MGC3030.
The MGC3030 with GestIC technology is now available and is supplied in a 28-pin SSOP package.
