The technology offers multi-touch HMIs like those of a mobile phone to drivers and passengers in the car on 8- to 15-inch screens.

The MXT1665T-A family incorporates Microchip's adaptive touch technology, which utilizes both self-capacitive and mutual-capacitive touch detection via scanning. This combination enables multi-touch operation even through thick protective glass, thick gloves, or in the presence of moisture and water. This product family meets AEC Q100 approval, addressing the unique needs of automotive system designs.

This family complements the successful MXT641T-A product family and shares many of the same features developed for the automotive industry. It also supports larger screens, exceeding 10 inches, and offers reduced multi-finger pinch-to-touch spacing.

The wide variety of screen sizes available within Microchip's touchscreen controller families greatly increases scalability and helps shorten design time, as well as reduce system and development costs. The MXT1665T-A family consists of three controllers: the MXT1665T-A supports 1664 touch node sensors; the MXT1189-A supports 1188 touch node sensors; and the MXT799T-A supports 798 touch node sensors.

An evaluation kit is available for each model in the MXT1665T-A family. Each kit includes a printed circuit board with a maXTouch controller; a touch sensor with a protective glass or plastic cover; a flexible circuit board for connecting the sensor to the display; a conversion board for connecting the kit to the board via USB; and cables, software, and documentation. The controllers are also compatible with maXTouch Studio, a comprehensive software development environment for evaluating maXTouch.

All devices in the MXT1665T-A family are now available for sampling and volume production and are supplied in an LQFP176 package.
