The RA2A2 devices offer multiple power supply architectures and voltage sensing hardware to achieve efficient, ultra-low power consumption of as little as 100 µA/MHz in active mode and 0.40 µA in software standby mode. A power supply-independent real-time clock extends battery life for applications requiring long-duration management under harsh conditions. The new MCUs also offer AES hardware acceleration, a high-precision (±1.0%) and high-speed on-chip oscillator, a temperature sensor, and a wide operating voltage range of 1.6 V to 5.5 V.
A suite of optimized features for intelligent power management:
The RA2A2 MCUs contribute to the digitization of conventional systems with key features including high-level analog sensing, FOTA support, 8 kHz/4 kHz hybrid sampling, and AES hardware accelerator capabilities. When end systems are digitized, it is possible to analyze the status of individual systems without interruption to achieve greater energy efficiency and streamline system operation. For example, next-generation smart electricity meters with non-intrusive load management (NILM) technology allow for monitoring energy consumption through a detailed analysis of the total load's current and voltage. Adopting smart meters with NILM is the most cost-effective and scalable solution for increasing energy efficiency and reducing energy consumption.
“Renesas has worked closely with its customers to understand their needs for next-generation systems that can contribute to critical energy-saving objectives,” says Akihiro Kuroda, Vice President of Renesas’ Integrated Processing Division 2. “The RA2A2 group MCUs are the result of that collaboration combined with our world-leading technical expertise. We are proud to offer this solution, which will enable significant energy savings across a wide range of systems.”
Key features of the RA2A2 group MCUs
: Core: 48 MHz Arm Cortex-M23;
Memory: 512 KB dual-bank integrated Flash memory and 48 KB SRAM;
Analog peripherals: 24-bit Sigma Delta ADC with digital filter, 12-bit ADC, and temperature sensor;
Package: 100-, 80-, and 64-pin LFQFP.
The new RA2A2 group MCUs are compatible with Renesas’ Flexible Software Package (FSP). The FSP enables faster application development by providing all the necessary infrastructure software, including multiple RTOSs, BSPs, peripheral drivers, middleware, connectivity, networking, and security stacks, as well as reference software for building complex AI, motor control, and cloud solutions. It allows customers to integrate their own legacy code and choice of RTOSs with the FSP, thus providing complete flexibility in application development. Using the FSP will facilitate the migration of RA2A2 designs to larger RA devices if customers so choose.
