µ-visor consolidates what was traditionally implemented across multiple systems into a single system based on a multi-processor RH850/UA2 microcontroller, resulting in significant savings in cost, size, and energy consumption. It also simplifies system design. µ-visor transparently leverages the virtualization capabilities of the Renesas RH850/U2A, enabling the simultaneous execution of multiple virtual machines, each supporting a variety of processor management and task scheduling strategies to suit diverse automotive use cases.
The Green Hills Multi® Integrated Development Environment (IDE) and its ISO 26262 ASIL D certified toolset enable the integration and optimization of multiple applications on a single RH850/U2A, controlling workload allocation while visualizing control and data flow behavior. µ-visor is an open hypervisor that can be used on a wide variety of operating systems, including third-party AUTOSAR environments, the Green Hills µ-VelOSity® operating system, customer-developed proprietary operating systems, or micro-planner-based designs. This provides the flexibility designers need to consolidate different ECUs, including support for ECU safety islands.
The Renesas RH850/U2A microcontroller is the first processor with integrated flash memory to incorporate hardware-based virtualization features while maintaining the high real-time performance expected of RH850 products. The hardware-based virtualization function complies with the ISO 26262 functional security standard at ASIL D level, enabling greater integration of critical applications required by OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers into a single microcontroller-based ECU. This hardware-based virtualization technology allows customers to deploy multiple software services with varying integrity levels (ASIL) on the RH850/U2A, which can run concurrently without interference, while ensuring the determinism of real-time performance. Green Hills Software's µ-visor fully supports all this advanced functionality provided by the hypervisor.
