The STM32C5 series from STMicroelectronics, available from Mouser, sets a new standard for entry-level MCUs with a 144 MHz Arm Cortex-M33 core running with Floating Point Unit (FPU) instructions (scoring 593 on CoreMark) and standardized Digital Signal Processing (DSP) instructions, all without external accelerators. The STM32C5 delivers three times the performance of a typical Cortex®-M0+ product and offers a higher RAM/flash memory ratio (up to 1 MB of flash and 256 KB of RAM) and a dedicated flash area for software emulation with electrically erasable programmable read-only memory (E2PROM). Furthermore, the STM32C5 design is enhanced by STMicroelectronics' proprietary 40 nm manufacturing process. This design saves valuable space to include modern features such as enhanced sensing, greater control, and improved user experiences, while maintaining low dynamic power consumption. The STM32C5 includes an Ethernet interface, octoSPI peripherals, and up to two Flexible Data Rate Controller Area Networks (FDCANs), as well as hardware encryption for SAES, SPKA, and HUK functions, and is available in various packages, from 20 to 144 pins.
Also available from Mouser are the STMicroelectronics NUCLEO-C5A3ZG (for STM32C55x/STM32C562 and STM32C59x/5A3) and NUCLEO-C542RE (for STM32C53x/542) development boards. The NUCLEO-C5A3ZG board, with the STM32Cube software ecosystem, offers a flexible and affordable way to prototype and allows for easy expansion of the Nucleo open development platform's functionality with a wide variety of specialized shields via various expansion connectors. The NUCLEO-C5A3ZG board also integrates the ST-LINK debugger/programmer and does not require a separate probe. The STMicroelectronics NUCLEO-C562RE board is an STM32 Nucleo64 platform that offers compatibility with Arduino Uno V3 connectors and ST Morpho headers and allows direct expansion of the board's functionality with a wide variety of specialized expansion shields.
