The EX-423, characterized by its robustness in demanding environments, is enclosed in an extreme vacuum chamber designed to provide optimal thermal insulation and enhance frequency stability. Its quartz crystal utilizes a four-point support to increase shock resistance and reduce g-force sensitivity, making it well-suited for GPS/GNSS tracking, military radios, medical devices, OBN (Ocean Bottom Node) seismic systems, test and measurement equipment, and satellite communications.

“In developing the EX-423, we focused on the key parameters designers use to evaluate high-performance reference oscillators,” said Randy Brudzinski, corporate vice president of Microchip’s Frequency and Timing Systems business unit. “Achieving this level of performance in a small, rugged form factor helps customers simplify their designs without sacrificing timing accuracy.”.

The EX-423 is characterized by its ultra-low phase noise with tight temperature control, excellent short-term stability (Allan deviation), rapid warm-up, and long-term frequency stability. Operating in a standard frequency range of 10–20 MHz, the device consumes 1W during warm-up and only 0.2W at +25°C in steady state, helping to extend battery life by maintaining a clean and stable reference under the specified operating conditions.
