Flexstrip jumpers are suitable for a wide range of applications, including computers, handheld terminals, barcode readers, printers and other consumer electronics, automotive, industrial machinery and household appliance applications.
The Flexstrip family comprises several connector models designed for various applications and service conditions. All feature a flat conductive structure that provides unparalleled flexibility and resistance to vibration and high flex cycles. The jumpers fit all standard printed circuit boards (PCBs) and require no crimping or cutting, simplifying assembly and soldering and reducing installation costs.
The flat conductor structure is achieved through a special manufacturing process involving the flattening of round conductors, which gives the Flexstrip jumper its exceptional flexibility. Conventional round pins at each end ensure easy assembly and soldering, while the smooth, notch-free transition from the flat conductor to the round contact pin guarantees a break- and stress-resistant termination area.
When electronic devices are subjected to strong vibrations, resonant frequencies can occur within the equipment structure and the PCB. If the PCBs are connected via point-to-point wiring, high voltage levels can develop, eventually leading to cable breakage, especially at the termination points—typically the weakest links in the system. With their flat conductive structure, TE Flexstrip jumpers are much better at absorbing these voltages, as the stress is transferred evenly across their entire length.
Furthermore, they act as vibration absorbers, ensuring that any vibration is quickly dissipated and not transferred to other parts of the equipment where further problems could arise.
TE Flexstrip jumpers are also very easy to use and provide connections between PCBs without the need for stripping or preparing wires. Cutting and crimping are also unnecessary. They are available in various insulating materials—Nomex, Teflon, polyester, and Kapton—for industrial, automotive, military, and aerospace applications.
Nomex aramid insulation is offered as an economical material for general applications where changes in strength due to humidity are not significant. Polyester has lower resistance to high temperatures but excellent mechanical and electrical properties and is also suitable for applications in high-humidity environments. Kapton polyimide has outstanding mechanical properties, especially at very high temperatures. Teflon fluoropolymer has superior electrical, mechanical, and chemical properties for demanding situations and is particularly suitable for applications with humidity or variable climatic conditions.
Jumpers are available in versions with 2 to 65 conductors, in nine different pitches, with lengths up to 76 cm (30 inches) and various pin lengths. Fifteen different terminations are also available for both ends. The copper conductors are tinned for easy soldering.
