water-cooled-engine-wDesigned by AKH (Antriebstechnik KATT Hessen), WEG's new subsidiary acquired at the end of 2014 to strengthen its expertise in special electric motors, the UTTW and USTW series incorporate an innovative, patented cooling system and offer a power density 1.5 to 2.6 times higher than conventional water-cooled motors. This ensures reduced heat dissipation and, consequently, a smaller frame size. Thanks to these features, they can achieve high torque and maximum speeds of up to 12,000 rpm in a very compact form.

Space savings and reductions in both weight and energy consumption are among the priorities of the industrial sector, particularly in applications such as electric vehicles, mobile machinery, machine tools, marine equipment, and agricultural and forestry equipment. Therefore, AKH water-cooled motors feature a system with cooling elements integrated into the stator fins, allowing heat to be dissipated directly at the source. This feature drastically reduces size and weight by eliminating the concentric steel tubes of the water jacket found in conventional water-cooled motors. For example, an AKH water-cooled motor with a power rating of 300 kW and a frame size of 180 (type UTTWp 180.4-4) is equivalent to a conventional 315-size water-jacketed motor of the same power rating.

AKH's water-cooled motors are characterized by their high energy efficiency, in accordance with the IE4 standard, allowing users to optimize their processes and ensuring very smooth and quiet operation, a vital feature for work in enclosed spaces.

The UTTW series induction motors cover a power range of 24 kW to 240 kW with a shaft height of 112 mm to 180 mm, while the premium UTTW(p) series of induction motors, equipped with a water-cooled rotor, offers power up to 300 kW with the same shaft heights. The USTW series water-cooled synchronous motors feature the same compact design and are available with power ratings up to 440 kW.

Founded in 1924 and headquartered in Homberg, Germany, AKH specializes in the development and production of innovative special electric motors for a wide range of industries and applications, as well as developing new motors tailored to specific customer needs. AKH's extensive range of special products includes motors for extremely demanding conditions, such as submersible motors and motors for agitators and sawmills, as well as high-performance motors for rigorous testing in the automotive sector. AKH's product range encompasses three-phase induction motors and synchronous motors with power ratings from 1 kW to 1,000 kW and speeds up to 20,000 rpm.
