This new development will be invaluable for applications requiring EMI/RFI shielding but with limited space for connectors and cabling. These applications include satellites and CubeSats, unmanned aerial vehicles, robotics, medical equipment, and high-density industrial systems.

Two versions of these horizontal back covers are available. The first incorporates panel-mount tabs, while the second does not. These back covers are compatible with Gecko-SL horizontal board-insertion connectors (with standard fabric clamping) and Gecko-MT mixed-type connectors (capable of carrying both power and data).

These top-mounted back covers are independently secured rather than attached directly to the connector. This allows for integration during manufacturing as well as in the initial design concept stages. They withstand the same extreme levels of vibration, shock, and temperature as the rest of the Gecko range, making them ideal for demanding environments.

“We are now able to offer metal back covers in both vertical and horizontal interlocking Gecko configurations. This will be very beneficial for engineering designs with significant space constraints,” said Ryan Smart, Head of Product Management at Harwin. “We are committed to meeting the shielding needs of our customers in the aviation, aerospace, industrial, and defense sectors, especially when using high-density printed circuit boards or small form factor enclosures.”
