As a compact and energy-efficient variable speed drive, the WEG CFW500 Solar Drive is aimed at controlling centrifugal and submersible motor pumps installed in locations where the electrical grid is unavailable or unreliable.

The CFW500 Solar Drive works by converting direct current (DC) from the photovoltaic panels into alternating current (AC) capable of powering and controlling the motor pump. It is worth noting that the new kit features an automatic start and stop function based on the available solar energy.

Key features of the CFW500 Solar Drive include: continuous maximum power point tracking (MPPT); dual PID for simultaneous control of DC voltage and pipe pressure; and up to four different speed and pressure control points.

A counter is included that displays operating hours and kilowatt-hours generated, while a sleep/wake function activates the unit based on DC voltage levels or pipe pressure. Programming is further enhanced with customizable SoftPLC functions and Modbus-RTU RS485 communication. The CFW500 Solar Drive also features protection against dry pump, overpressure, and pipe rupture.

Thanks to a solar radiation sensor, it's possible to use hybrid energy sources, such as solar panels and generators. This configuration can help increase operating time during periods of low solar radiation.

A robust design allows for a 150 percent overcurrent for 60 seconds and ambient temperatures up to 50°C without power reduction. Furthermore, the CFW500 Solar Drive incorporates tropicalized electronic boards that extend its lifespan while protecting the circuit (IEC 60721-3-3, class 3C2) in hazardous operating environments.

The new CFW500 Solar Drive kit expands WEG's existing CFW500 range, which includes variable frequency drives (VFDs) for applications requiring speed and torque control of three-phase induction motors. CFW500 VFDs provide sensorless vector control, closed-loop vector control, and scalar V/f (voltage-frequency) control. The range also offers Pump Genius, which adds specific functions for pumping systems, and selectable plug-in modules, providing a flexible and optimized solution for any application.
