The IOSC evaluation board is supplied with six small printed circuit boards that can be detached from the main board. Four-pin oscillators of varying sizes (1.6 × 1.2 mm, 2.0 × 1.6 mm, 2.5 × 2.0 mm, 3.2 × 2.5 mm, 5.0 × 3.2 mm, and 7.0 × 5.0 mm) can be mounted on these small boards, and the assembly can then be soldered to the main printed circuit board.
Since disturbances in the supply voltage can affect the oscillator frequency, the IOSC evaluation board incorporates a regulated and attenuated supply voltage, freely selectable between 1.8 and 5.0 V. This allows the oscillator's performance to be observed under ideal conditions. The evaluation board allows the supply voltage to be connected directly to the printed circuit board, enabling the introduction of disturbances and noise during testing and the recording of their effects.
Various Test Scenarios:
The enable/disable function can be manually tested to accurately monitor its effect on current consumption. An external digital source can also be connected to measure the enable time and test the function on the oscillator. For products with a pulling input, such as the VCXO or VCTCXO, a potentiometer is mounted on the printed circuit board to reduce frequency tolerance and the soldering effect, and to return the frequency to its nominal value. The pulling input can also be used to manually test its effect on the frequency.
For sensitive products like the VCTCXO, it is possible to improve stability, reduce jitter, and minimize phase noise. First, the tolerance is brought to the nominal value using the pulling input. Then, the potentiometer's resistance is measured and replaced with a fixed resistor.
In the output stage, the IOSC evaluation board offers three connection configurations. You can select between a CMOS output, a sinusoidal output with clipping, or a direct output without buffer or load. All outputs have an SMA connector.
The evaluation board is available in two versions: as a blank printed circuit board with a parts list for building the test circuit, and as a pre-assembled printed circuit board for immediate use.
