The new miriac MPX-S32G399A system module surpasses its NXP S32G2-based predecessor with 2.5 times the application processing performance, thanks to the new NXP S32G3 processor. Key improvements include eight Arm Cortex-A53 cores instead of just four, and four pairs of dual-core Arm Cortex-M7 cores instead of three. Original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) using this new miriac SoM benefit not only from increased processor bandwidth for their safety-critical applications, but also from the system module's inherent instant access to prototyping and expanded connectivity for their specific use cases, as well as comprehensive software support and the required safety documentation for certifications. The new system module offers multiple native CAN interfaces, along with broad compatibility for FlexRay, LIN, and Ethernet, including TSN. Target markets include real-time connected vehicles, mobile machinery, and automotive test and measurement equipment.
Other applications include data loggers, edge gateways, and fail-safe programmable logic controllers (PLCs). The NXP S32G vehicle network processor is designed for ASIL D safety applications in OEM and Tier-1 automotive applications. MicroSys Electronics extends its application areas to SIL certifications for any market requiring functional safety standards analogous to IEC 61508, such as rail technology (EN 50155), aviation (DO-160), stationary and mobile machinery (ISO 13849), as well as manufacturing robots (ISO 10218), control systems (IEC 62061), and drive systems (IEC 61800-5-2). Approvals in the aviation context (DO-254/DO-160) can be supported by manufacturer documentation.
The new miriac MPX-S32G399A SoM from MicroSys Electronics features the eight Arm Cortex-A53 cores of the S32G3 with Arm Neon technology, arranged in two clusters for applications and services. For real-time tasks, the S32G3 also includes four pairs of dual-core Arm Cortex-M7 cores with lockstep, for which MicroSys offers support for dedicated FreeRTOS implementations in addition to standard NXP automotive support. Grouped and operating in lockstep mode, the S32G3's heterogeneous core array can support ASIL-D applications or any other functional safety standard comparable to IEC 61508. Regarding memory, the new SoM integrates 4 GB of soldered LPDDR4 RAM at 3200 MT/s, up to 32 GB of eMMC non-volatile memory, and 64 MB of QuadSPI flash memory. External SD card storage can be multiplexed with the onboard eMMC.
In terms of connectivity, the new SoM offers a wide range of generic and communication interfaces, including four SerDes interfaces configurable as PCIe Gen3 2x1 or 2x2, three 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet ports plus three Gigabit Ethernet ports, 18 CAN FD bus ports, two FlexRay ports, and four LIN ports. Fourteen GPIOs, twelve analog inputs (ADCs), four FlexSPI ports, two UARTs, one USB port, and four I2C ports complete the interface lineup. For plotting and debugging tasks, the SoM supports Aurora and JTAG interfaces. A comprehensive board support package, including bootloader configuration and all necessary Linux drivers, completes the feature set.
