The Econ 100 combines IXXAT's expertise in machine control with the fieldbus and industrial Ethernet capabilities of HMS's Anybus technology.
The Econ 100 is an ARM-based embedded PC platform for standard DIN rail mounting, featuring a Linux operating system and exclusive multi-protocol support. Customized gateway and control solutions can be quickly and easily implemented for various fieldbuses and industrial Ethernet standards. From the "out-of-the-box" version to special OEM solutions, the Econ 100 is unique in its flexibility and performance.
A new expansion card combines multi-protocol support, local I/O, and enhanced data security. In addition to the built-in interfaces (two Ethernet, two CAN, and two USB), the Econ 100 can be expanded with this new expansion card: besides analog and digital I/O, the expansion card offers a slot for HMS Anybus CompactCom modules, a serial interface, and 512 MB of NVRAM.
CompactCom modules are available for the most common fieldbuses and industrial Ethernet networks and can be easily connected from the Econ 100 application software via the common Anybus programming interface. Together with the EtherCAT and CANopen solutions already available for the Econ 100, this multi-protocol approach makes the Econ 100 an ideal, future-proof platform for customized control solutions with integrated communication.
The expansion card also provides 24 inputs and outputs, for example, for direct connection to sensors and actuators. With a digital output current of up to 2 A and 12-bit resolution for the analog channels, the Econ 100 is ideal for a wide range of applications, and the RS232/RS485 interface makes it a perfect link between industrial Ethernet or real-time CAN networks and proven serial applications.
Thanks to the NVRAM available on the expansion card, the Econ 100 ensures complete data security for the user. This feature makes it suitable for critical applications such as automated handling technology, where the last operating state and all process variables must be preserved in the event of a power failure.
In addition to supporting C/C++ programming, HMS offers an intuitive Soft-PLC programming environment, developed in collaboration with Copalp, that is IEC 61131-3 compliant to simplify the programming and configuration of control applications. This software package supports all major protocols, including CANopen, EtherCAT, Powerlink, PROFINET, and EtherNet/IP.
For rapid and efficient implementation of complex applications, HMS offers several well-documented Application Development Kits (ADKs) for the Econ 100. The ADKs include a robust board support package that incorporates all necessary interface drivers, sample applications, the respective software protocol package pre-installed on an SD card, and the Linux operating system.
The combination of a powerful CPU, up to 1 GB of RAM, a robust metal casing, and a fanless design with a wide operating temperature range of -40 °C to +60 °C ensures that the Econ 100 meets the requirements of several important application areas.
In addition to the standard version, the Econ 100 is also available as a board-level product that can be integrated into existing customer applications, utilizing minimal space. HMS can develop OEM versions with specific hardware adaptations and application-specific versions upon request.
