kbox-a103-wThe robust construction also means it is suitable for use in the harshest industrial environments. The fanless and cable-free PCs are distinguished by their long lifespan and low power consumption.
The device can be equipped with industrial I/O, fieldbuses, and/or interfaces for industrial Ethernet. With its proven, maintenance-free design, the KBOX A-103 requires no additional batteries for operation, is highly reliable (high MTBF), easily adaptable to customer needs, and comes with extensive diagnostic features such as the Kontron Embedded Application Programming Interface (KEAPI) 3.5. Developers benefit from a library of API functions that provide hardware information on all new Kontron embedded platforms. These features ensure that the total cost of ownership (TCO) is kept to a minimum.

The new KBOX A-103 is equipped with scalable SMARC modules, featuring the latest Intel® Embedded Power Atom™ processors, up to the E3845. The modular approach ensures simple upgrades to the next generation of processors ("Forever Young"), keeping pace with evolving performance requirements.

To keep the costs of customer-specific adjustments low while enabling rapid implementation of changes without any design risk or additional development costs, Kontron offers the "Modified Standard" (MoST). MoST is based on proven building blocks, providing all the essential components (BIOS, hardware, firmware, and middleware), and allowing for quick and easy modification.

With a wide range of features and interfaces, the KBOX A-103 is ready for the Internet of Things (IoT). WiFi options via the mini PCI interface and GPRS and LTE data transmissions via the optional SIM card slot enable rapid access to maintenance and diagnostic functions. This gives users visibility into potential problems when using the PC in a networked system. In addition, the enclosure features up to two RS422/485 ports for serial and digital data transmission, as well as additional fieldbus inputs/outputs.

With a wide variety of I/O options, including two Gigabit LAN ports (which also support IEEE 1588), two USB 2.0 ports, one USB 3.0 port, and additional interfaces such as two Mini PCIe ports, three COM ports, and one mSATA port, the KBOX A-103 is well-suited for embedded applications requiring a compact, low-power design. The PC supports up to 8 GB of DDR3 RAM and offers storage options such as integrated flash memory, mSATA, or SSD. In addition, the new KBOX A-103 also supports a 10 to 30V DC input and can be used in areas with a temperature range of -20 to +60°C. The battery-free KBOX IPCs also feature a Gold Cap, which can provide real-time clock (RTC) backup for up to 40 days in the event of a power outage.
